June 2012

Transportation, Art, Sustainability, Collaboration and Political Advocacy

Next week in New Bern, NC Landscape Architects and others will gather to learn, exchange information and discuss the issues of the day affecting the practice of the profession. At the NCASLA Annual meeting we will have opportunities to hear from experts in the field of transportation planning, learn about the importance of public art in place making, and benefit from presentations by ASLA national leadership on political advocacy.

The Thursday evening event will include a presentation by the curator of the gardens at Tryon Palace. Included in the educational sessions on Friday are presentations on transit oriented development, sustainable development and healthy communities, public art, collaboration among disciplines, and everyone's favorite ...political advocacy. Our keynote address will be given by Paul Morris FASLA, NC Deputy Secretary for Transit.

Fresh from our ASLA Advocacy Day in Washington DC and NCASLA's own legislative breakfast in Raleigh, attendees will hear from ASLA national leaders, NC Landscape Architects, and NCASLA's state lobbyist regarding the importance of advocacy in protecting the scope of our profession.

On Saturday, sessions will be held by members of the NC Board of Landscape Architects on regulatory issues and ethics. In addition tours will include Tryon Palace and other sites unique to New Bern.

There promises to be a wealth of stimulating information, inspiration and dialogue.

And I am sure we will find time to also enjoy each other's company, renew friendships and simply have a good time.

It's not too late.... Register and join us!
