Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Update: February 2021
On January 19, members of the committee met virtually and agreed to a mission statement with objectives for the committee. On February 4, the NCASLA Executive Committee accepted the mission statement formalizing the previous “Beyond the Statement Task Force” into the permanent Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. The 2021 Long Session of the General Assembly Offers New Opportunities as Lawmakers Grapple with Unprecedented Challenges
Advocacy groups like ours are developing creative approaches for getting their message to lawmakers and this year NCASLA will host its first-ever Advocacy Week the week of April 26 - 30 where members can safely engage in advocacy activities with their legislators. The Executive Committee will release more details on those events as they are finalized and we look forward to your participation!
Emerging Professionals Committee Update: February 2021

Welcome Triangle Section Chair, Josh Karrick
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to our newest Executive Committee Member, Josh Karrick. He is a Landscape Architect with over 20 years of experience and is now based in Raleigh, NC. Josh recently served NCASLA as the Mountain Section Chair for three years prior relocating and now works as the Associate Director of Land Planning for Cline Design Associates.
Call for Entries: 2021 Special Awards
The North Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects sponsors an Annual Awards Program. NCASLA strengthens the profession in North Carolina while promoting stewardship of the environment by recognizing significant achievements of landscape architects, citizens, organizations and landscape architecture students. The Annual Awards Program is administered by the NCASLA Executive Committee Member-At-Large and additional assistance from the association management. The NCASLA Awards Program procedures closely follow the national ASLA Awards Program procedures.
The Special Awards Program recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the profession and to the enhancement of the physical environment. All Special Awards nominations are solicited and reviewed by the Past President’s Council, which votes on the final selection.

2021 NCASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture: Call for Proposals
NCASLA is issuing a Call for Proposals for a conference that takes place from May 5-7, 2021. We invite landscape architects, academics, allied professionals and vendors to the profession to submit proposals that fit this year’s conference theme. Please submit your proposal via our online form by midnight, February 26, 2021.

1st LARE Roundtable Conversation for Emerging Professionals on January 21
We are thrilled to start 2021 Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC) events with the 1st LARE Roundtable Conversation and look forward to seeing you at the virtual event. The event is on Thursday, January 21, from 12:00-1:00 pm.
In the 1st LARE webinar, we will host five professionals at different stages of their careers. They share their own unique experience of LARE exams and the lessons learned during studying and getting licensed.
