President’s Update: December 2022

by Joshua Karrick, ASLA, AICP

Greetings NCASLA Members! It’s truly a privilege to be the 2022-2023 President of this great organization, and I look forward to providing leadership across all aspects of the Chapter this coming year! We again have a strongly experienced Executive Committee that will guide and shape our outreach events and communications to all the membership.

I would like to thank Hollie Colony as she transitions to Past-President for all of her dedication and hard work over this past year. Hollie is a true professional and was a guiding light advancing the Chapter forward as we emerged into this post Covid world! It has been a pleasure to work with her over the past couple of years and I look forward to her council in her new role.

I would also like to thank Courtney Landoll, Past-President; Darneka Waters, Charlotte Section Chair; Lexi Chacalos, Triangle Section Chair; Crystal Ross, Treasurer; and Sahar Teymouri, Emerging Professionals Chair for their contributions to the Executive Committee over the last couple of years. We wish you continued success in your professional endeavors, and we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events this year!

We have a few new members serving on the Executive Committee this year and a few returning to new positions. Let me welcome Drake Fowler as President-Elect. He had been serving as the Mountain Section Chair which is now currently vacant and available for anyone interested in from that region. Lora Greco is returning to the Treasurer position after taking some time away and we welcome her commitment and experience to the Chapter! Our new Executive Committee members include Ellen Joseph, Charlotte Section Chair; Brittain Allison, Triangle Section Chair; Brit Davis, Emerging Professional Chair; and Chris Stebbins, Member At-Large Communications Chair. Many thanks to all of you for your time and service to the Chapter.

As I mentioned, there are a couple of unfilled positions that are available for those interested in participating, including the Mountain Section Chair, Triad Section Chair, and Member At-Large Legislative & State Advocacy Committee Chair. Please feel free to reach out to us at info@ncasla.org for more information!

Finally, our Executive Committee will meet in January for our Annual Retreat where we will define our priorities and direction for the year.

We hope to see you all at Southeast Regional Conference (SERC) 2023 held in Atlanta from April 23-25, 2023!

Have a great Holiday Season!!
