President's Update: January 2022

President’s Update: January 2022

by Hollie Colony, PLA, ASLA

It’s 2022, and I hope you all had a restful holiday and a happy New Year. I am looking forward to maintaining these monthly newsletters to touch base with you and keep you updated on what your Executive Committee has been up to.

The Executive Committee has been busy getting ready for the annual planning retreat. We will be meeting a couple of different times over the next 2 weeks to welcome new Executive Committee members, and strategically plan for the 2022 year. Some of the things we will be doing to set ourselves for this next year is approving the budget, reviewing goals for the Chapter, reviewing goals for each of the committees, getting updates on the NCASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture in Wilmington.

Additionally, this month, we will be working on the following items:

  • Approving Fellows nominee application(s) and sending them on to National

  • Continuing to plan for the person 2022 Conference

  • Continuing to coordinate with our fellow Southeast Regional Conference Members related to the Southeast Regional Conference slated for in 2023 in Georgia

  • Issuing the Call for Entries for the NCASLA Awards

At the end of my last letter, I mentioned we have a few opportunities to get involved. We understand that some of you are able to volunteer on a regular basis, some of you are able to volunteer in smaller bits, and others are able to simply spread the word about what is happening. Each effort is just as important and allows us to continue to support our profession.

I ask that you take a look at the various committee descriptions on our website, and if anything looks intriguing, send us a message. Alternately, if there is something that you are passionate about that we don’t currently offer, send us a message! We would love to know.

We currently have the following Executive Committee positions and volunteer opportunities open:

  • Triad Section Chair

The following Committees within the Executive Committee would love to hear from you if you have any interest!

  • Membership

  • Sponsorship

  • Diversity, Inclusion, & Equity

  • Communications

  • Licensure & State Advocacy

  • Conference & Awards

  • Emerging Professionals

  • Continuing Education & Events

Lastly, I want to reiterate we can only function as a Chapter with the help of our members, and thank each of you who have helped in some capacity. I look forward to updating you all in February with what was discussed at the retreat, and any other things that we have been working on.
