At Long Last... The 2021 NCASLA Award Winners

At Long Last... The 2021 NCASLA Award Winners

by Dan Lambert, PLA, ASLA

The last two years have been, well, unique to phrase it in the best possible light. A part of the disruption that the pandemic world has brought to our lives includes the struggle to determine the right way to honor our fellow professionals who have done exceptional work over the past few years as we do every year, with the NCASLA Annual Awards.

Typically, the chapter holds a gala associated with the conference to honor winners. With last year’s shift to a virtual conference, we decided to hold out until summer for better opportunities for an in-person event. As it turns out, that has not been possible in the time since and our wonderful slate of 2021 NCASLA Annual Award winners have waited patiently for the time when they will be announced.

That time is now. Here are your 2021 NCASLA Annual Award Winners!!

President's Update: January 2022

by Hollie Colony, PLA, ASLA

It’s 2022, and I hope you all had a restful holiday and a happy New Year. I am looking forward to maintaining these monthly newsletters to touch base with you and keep you updated on what your Executive Committee has been up to.

The Executive Committee has been busy getting ready for the annual planning retreat. We will be meeting a couple of different times over the next 2 weeks to welcome new Executive Committee members, and strategically plan for the 2022 year. Some of the things we will be doing to set ourselves for this next year is approving the budget, reviewing goals for the Chapter, reviewing goals for each of the committees, getting updates on the NCASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture in Wilmington.

The Annual Awards Program is administered by the NCASLA Executive Committee Member-At-Large and additional assistance from the association management. The NCASLA Awards Program procedures closely follow the national ASLA Awards Program procedures.

The Special Awards Program recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the profession and to the enhancement of the physical environment. All Special Awards nominations are solicited and reviewed by the Past President’s Council, which votes on the final selection.

Hello fellow landscape designers/architects/dreamers,

I am beyond excited to start this year off building on the momentum we have been building. Since it’s the holidays, and we are all in the middle of deadlines, last minute present buying, and not believing it’s already December, we are going keep this newsletter short. Just enough to end the year with some gratitude and a little FYI.

Happy Holidays everyone! At the conclusion of the Conference on Landscape Architecture, my term as President officially ended and I passed the gavel to our new President Hollie Colony. For those of you who don’t know, Hollie is an Associate at Urban Design Partners in Charlotte and a former NCASLA Section Chair. Hollie not only brings NCASLA experience to the table, she brings compassion, dedication and a passion for the profession to the role. Please join me in welcoming Hollie to the helm!

While I will remain on the Executive Committee for the next year, I wanted to take a moment to share what we have accomplished together over the last year and what an unusual year it has been!
