President's Update: June 2022
by Hollie Colony, PLA, ASLA
I hope you all had a great May and are gearing up for a great summer! I’m not sure I’m entirely ready for the North Carolina heat and humidity, but I’ll just keep my sunscreen handy and my water bottle full!
May was a big month for me, not only did I get to see my parents, but I had the opportunity to finally meet many of you in person at our conference! Thank you to all our Sponsors, Exhibitors, and to each of you who attended. We can plan an event out in detail, but without your participation it can’t be a success. We would love to hear your feedback if you haven’t provided it already, please feel free to let us know your thoughts via this link .

NCSU Update: June 2022
by Meg Calkins, FASLA, FCELA
After four years as NCSU LAEP Department Head, Meg Calkins, FASLA, FCELA, will step down at the end of the month to devote more time to her teaching and scholarship. Under Calkins’ leadership, department enrollments increased by approximately 50% and underrepresented minority student enrollment increased from 2% to 8%. She led the faculty through a successful accreditation visit, recruited a new Director of the Natural Learning Initiative, and facilitated a substantial increase in funded research. Gene Bressler will serve as Interim Head for one year while a search for a new Head is conducted.
Congratulations to the 2022 Spring Graduates

President's Update: April 2022
by Hollie Colony, PLA, ASLA
Happy World Landscape Architecture Month! I bet if we polled people on what they thought the most important day in the month of April is, the majority would say ‘Tax Day’, April 15. I also bet that if you asked a landscape architect the same question, they may try to convince you that last week of April is where it’s at! Annually, we celebrate Frederick Law Olmsted’s (FLO) birthday on April 26 and Arbor Day (typically celebrated on the last Friday of the month) so it’s a week filled with design, history, trees, and the environment! Does it get any better?
This April 26, we not only get to celebrate FLO’s birthday, but it’s the big 2-0-0! Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about finding a cake large enough to accommodate 200 candles, but I do hope you all are able to do something to celebrate. Not that we need another reason to bookmark April 26, but it is also the last day to register with the Advanced Rate for our conference in Wilmington. So, if there is a day to remember this month, it’s not that your taxes are due on April 15, it’s April 26!
